The governing board of Silicon Valley Down Syndrome Network along with the Bay Area Buddy Walk Committee invites you to come Walk with Us in the 8th Annual Bay Area Buddy Walk on Saturday October 20th 2012 at Lake Cunningham Park in San Jose California.
The Bay Area Buddy Walk is hosted by Silicon Valley Down Syndrome Network, a volunteer parent operated organization supporting individuals with Down syndrome and their families, in conjunction with the National Down Syndrome Society for the purpose of promoting Down syndrome Awareness. The name Buddy Walk promotes inclusion between friends of every ability.
In 1995, to celebrate Down Syndrome Awareness Month, October, the Buddy Walk program was established by the National Down Syndrome Society (NDSS) to promote acceptance and inclusion of people with Down syndrome. Starting with just 17 events the first year, the Buddy Walk has grown to over 250 events with over 285,000 participants, raising more than $11 million dollars and is ranked in the top 30 fund-raising events nationwide for: money raised, number of participants and best series event since 2008 according to Run Walk Ride Fundraising Council Survey results.
The Bay Area Buddy Walk, along with promoting Down Syndrome awareness, raises money for Silicon Valley Down Syndrome Network and the National Down Syndrome Society; which helps these organizations continue to provide support for individuals with Down syndrome and their families on a local and national level. Please help us help those with Down syndrome by contributing whatever you can, be it money, time, or best of all friendship and inclusion.
